CITY OF PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS

Cohesive park furnishings across Taliaferro and Harmon Parks

Problem

Prairie Village had invested in its parks steadily over the years, new restrooms, playsets, individual play equipment, trail improvements, and resurfaced tennis courts. But the furnishings hadn’t kept pace. Aging benches and tables left over from earlier eras didn’t match the upgrades around them, and the mismatch was visible. The City needed a way to tie everything together without the cost of another major capital project.

Solution

New benches and picnic tables turned out to be the cost-effective way to do it. The City selected Premier Polysteel accessible picnic tables and supreme benches for Taliaferro Park (2900 W 79th Street) and Harmon Park (7700 Delmar). With 12 standard colors to choose from, the parks department matched furnishings to a consistent palette across both parks. Surface-mount options on both the benches and tables gave staff flexibility to place furnishings where they’re needed now and relocate them as park layouts change.

Result

The before-and-after tells the story: parks that had been upgraded piece by piece now read as finished. Prairie Village has a unified look across its sites with furnishings that serve residents of all ages and mobility levels. The mix of accessible tables and supreme style benches broadens who can comfortably use each space, and surface mounting keeps future placement decisions open rather than permanent, all backed by an industry-leading 20-year warranty. Taliaferro and Harmon are just the start, the City has updates underway at several other parks as well.

  • Cohesive Look Across Multiple Parks
  • Cost-Effective Complement to Larger Capital Projects
  • Accessible Seating for All Ages and Mobilities
  • Flexible Surface-Mount Placement
  • Industry-Leading 20-Year Warranty

Why They Chose Premier Polysteel

For Prairie Village, the decision came down to fit — aesthetic and functional. The color range let the parks department create a cohesive feel at every park rather than a patchwork of mismatched furnishings. Just as important was the range of accessible tables and deep-seat benches, which let the City build a better park experience for residents regardless of age or mobility. The surface-mount option sealed it, giving staff flexibility with placement now and down the road.
